The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has proposed that Olympic golf and rugby be added to the current list of 26 core sports for the 2016 Olympic program. The final decision concerning inclusion will be made in early October during the Olympic Congress in Copenhagen. This would be the first time in over a century that golf has been an Olympic sport. Golf was in the Olympic Games twice, first in the1900 Paris Olympics and again in the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. Golf was then dropped from the Olympic list due to lack of interest.
